While the technology was first introduced on models under the Cadillac umbrella, the debut of the GMC HUMMER EV revealed that Super Cruise would be making its way into models from the GMC brand as well. While it remained to be seen whether or not it would be a technology exclusive to the new HUMMER EV, now we can say with confidence that it won’t be exclusive, as GMC has announced the Sierra 1500 Denali will offer Super Cruise as an available feature starting late in the 2022 model year.

What is Super Cruise technology?

2022 GMC Sierra Denali SuperCruise SimulationYou can read more about it by following the link above, but to give you a quick refresher, Super Cruise technology is an advanced driver-assistive safety system that utilizes several different components – driver attention system, precision LiDAR map date, real-time cameras, sensors, GPS – to offer the closest thing we’ve gotten yet to true autonomy.

It combines traditional cruise control with adaptive cruise control and throws in a feature that enables the vehicle to automatically change lanes if possible when a vehicle in front of you isn’t driving up to your desired speed. While you don’t have to keep your hands on the wheel with this technology, you are still expected to keep your eyes on the road and will be warned if you take them off too long.

We’re absolutely stoked to hear that the 2022 or 2023 GMC Sierra 1500 Denali will begin offering this technology as an available feature! We cannot wait to see it begin spreading to even more vehicles and will keep you posted with those updates as they become available.
